Summer Camps
River Day School is planning some enjoyable, active, stretch-your-mind camps this summer! All of our camps are one week long, Monday-Friday, so kids have a chance to really dig-in, explore and have fun. Please call 509-326-6595 or e-mail us at riverdayschool@gmail.com to sign up for summer camps. (Sorry parents, our camps are only for kids.) All of our camps run from 9am to 3pm. Lunch is not provided unless your child is taking one of our cooking and baking classes. We will be offering child care before and after camp times at an additional fee. All summer camps will be held at our New Location! 1627 E. Trent Ave. Spokane, WA.
June 17th to June 21st
Riverfront Park Camp
$165 (includes a Summer Pass to Riverfront park!)
For children entering grades 1st – 6th
Kick-off summer with five days of fun at Spokane’s premier park! We’ll be at Riverfront Park every day. The kids will ‘go back in time’ as they ride the century-old Looff Carrousel, the Red Baron, and other carnival rides. We’ll play in the Rotary Fountain, travel to Canada (Island) and discover all the fun at River Park. Camp cost includes a Summer Pass to Riverfront Park for each child to keep.
Potentially Catastrophic Science Week

Enjoy a week of rockets, explosions, and other dangerous scientific discoveries. This week will get messy, but it is going to be fun!
June 24th to June 28th
Beginner Lego Robotics Challenge

For children entering grades 1st – 3rd
Students will use motors, gears, levers, pulleys, beams, and bricks to design a new machine or vehicle each day that can meet a daily challenge: racing cars, throwing catapults, climbing hills, and making daring rescues!
Cooking and Baking

For children entering grades 3rd – 6th
Food that is good for you and entertaining? Yes! Kids will learn nutrition basics and prepare themed Bento box lunches in the morning. We’ll spend our afternoons working on a multi-step cake, learning techniques for baking, sculpting, fondant work, and coloring to create a show piece cake to bring home at the end of the week. We’ll also be learning food science, and how to measure baking ingredients by weight.
Nature in the Palm of your Hands

For children entering grades 3rd – 6th
Search for hidden treasure and stash some of your own during this summer adventure camp. Participants will learn the basics of GPS navigation, explore amazing natural areas of Spokane and hunt for geocaches. Treasure for all participants!
July 8th to July 12th
Lego Robotic Contraptions

For children entering grades 1st – 3rd
Students will be challenged to build contraptions that spin, stretch, and otherwise spring into action. This is a great week for beginners and experts. Each challenge has directions or students can design their own.
Lego Robotics 1

For children entering grades 4th – 6th
Is you child a future engineer or programmer? If so, they will enjoy this week. Using Lego NXT’s your child will learn the basics of robot programming. They will build a robot with NXT programmable bricks and program it to meet challenges of mazes, climb an incline, using sensors, following lines and programming to meet missions. (We’ll be working in groups of 2-3 students.)
Pinterest

Pinterest will be our inspiration this week! Kids will create and make their own treasures and crafts while using ideas found on Pinterest. The kids will help choose some of our items, and others will be preselected. All projects will be coming home with their creators!
July 15th to 19th
Sock Monster and Art Class

For children entering grades Kindergarten – 2nd
This is not your ordinary art class! A fun filled week where kids will construct their own monster dolls, learn encaustic painting, make a mosaic stepping stone, and a canvas painting project that they will be bringing home. See picture above from a previous sock monster class!
Lego Robotics 2

For children entering grades 4th – 6th
Lego Robotics 1 or previous experience is recommended.
This week is an opportunity to test your Lego NXT programming skills. Using the FIRST Lego League Smart Move, your child will be challenged to several missions on the board. The week will be spent designing a robot and its attachments, trying to accomplish as many missions as possible. On Friday, a friendly competition will be held to see which team scores the most points. (Teams will have no more than 2-3 students.)
July 22nd to 26th
Sewing

For children entering grades 3rd – 6th
Kids will be introduced to basic pattern reading and cutting, sewing machine operation (such as how to make and load a bobbin), and finishing techniques (attaching rick rack, ruffles, ect.) The kids will be making either a sundress or shorts that will be brought home.

Come learn, explore, and enjoy the thrills of summer. Kids will burn off their extra energy as they learn the merits of both individual fitness and teamwork. Cooperative games, personal fitness, familiar playground activities, and sporty souvenirs will ensure fun for all kids! (Active shoes with laces recommended.)
Dangerous Things All Kids Should Try

Based on the book “50 Dangerous Things (You should let your children do)”. This camp will be a hands on play camp. Kids will tinker, explore, and experiment while being taught safety. Children will be allowed to take apart, build, create, and do things that help them learn to handle risk and danger.
July 29th to August 2nd
Urban Explorers

For children entering grades 3rd – 6th
Everyday kids at the camp will decide on a destination, map out how to get there (by foot, or by bus) and go! This camp teaches mapping skills, time management, and how to read bus schedules, encouraging self-confidence and competence. This camp includes field trips and a scavenger hut at Riverfront Park.
Totally Irresponsible Science

This is the week for budding young scientists! Through the week experiment with a cola geyser, sandwich bag bombs, homemade lighting, breakfast of iron, marshmallows on steroids and much, much, more!!
More Dangerous Thing All Kids Should Try

Lego Play

Does your child love to build with Legos? Then they will enjoy a week of non-stop Lego building. Each day of the week will begin with a different theme and challenge.
Bike Camp

This will be a great week for those who love to bike! We will be learning bike maintenance, and bike safety. We will be biking on the Centennial Trail going to different destinations every day.
Beginning Builders

Each day the campers will have a new woodworking project to complete. They will be building birdhouses, a toolbox, a step stool, and more. There will be fun and games, and a field trip to Lowes!
August 12th to 16th
Brass Camp

For children entering grades 4th – 6th
This should be an awesome band camp! Kids will spend their day learning the fundamentals about brass instruments. They will be learning how to read music, work together as an ensemble, learn historical backgrounds on the various instruments, breathing techniques, and practice on the instruments.
Ultimate Gamer

For children entering grades Kindergarten – 3rd
If you love to play games this is the camp for you! We will be playing everything from Wii (rated E & E10+ games, projected on a big screen), to board games, outside games, any gym games. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional this week will be fun for everyone!
Cool, Colorful and Creative Art

For children entering grades 1st – 6th
This exciting week will be filled exploring different art mediums and styles. Some of the options will include acrylic on canvas, pop art, tile mosaics, junk art, water color, pastels, and encaustics. The kids will be able to work at their own pace on projects both indoors and out. The number and difficulty of projects your kids bring home will be based on their age, ability, and motivation to explore.
August 19th to 23rd
Baking and Cooking

Lets ditch the Easy Bake Oven! In the mornings we will be learning nutrition basics and will be preparing Bento box lunches. In the afternoons we will be making and decorating cake pops, cupcakes, fruit arrangements, and petit fours for the kids to bring home!

Refresher Course

Need a little something to get academic skills back in place, yet still in the summer mood? This class is designed to engage your child in math, reading, and writing as they get ready for back to school. We will use their interest and the outdoors to guide us in our refresher course.
